Prompts and manuals for Claude Code and any AI assistant · version 3.2 · 27 October 2026

PC Handover

Move a project to another PC without losing what your AI assistant has learned about it: the memory, the rules, the skills and the notes. Two prompts do the work, one on the old side and one on the new side. For Claude Code, and for a move between different assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.

A new PC is easy. A new assistant is hard. These prompts know the difference.

Why it is harder than it looks

  1. Copying the project folder is not enough. Claude Code keeps most of what it learned outside the project: its memory, your skills, your personal rules and settings, in a hidden folder in your user profile.
  2. The memory folder is named after the project's path. On the new PC the path is different, so the name is different, and memory copied under the old name is never read again.
  3. Moving to another assistant is harder still. An export from ChatGPT or Gemini cannot be imported anywhere, and the assistant's memory is not in the export at all. Only what was written down in your own files travels.
  4. You do not need to understand the technical parts, such as all the different Markdown (.md) files, folders and settings. The prompts find them, ask you a few questions first, copy, check, and tell you what still needs your decision.

What's inside

Two packages in one zip. Each has a READ_ME_FIRST, an export prompt for the old side and an import prompt for the new side:

  • Moving Claude to another PC: the export prompt asks seven questions, lists the project, finds the memory and the skills, writes a missing CLAUDE.md or session note, copies everything and checks it before you unplug the drive
  • The import prompt asks four questions, puts everything back, merges instead of overwriting, gives the memory its new folder name, gives you a checklist, and writes a prompt for the old PC when something is still missing
  • Moving any AI to another PC, account or assistant: export and import prompts that create the notes files if you have none, so your knowledge travels
  • The manual Moving Claude to Another PC, version 2.4, in English, French, Dutch and German (PDF)
  • Your passwords and keys never travel: the prompts name them, and you set them yourself on the new PC
